I’m a Los Angeles based food stylist with fifteen years in the industry. I often get asked how I ended up doing this and like many others in this business my answer is simply, “I just kinda fell into it.” Never the type to make conventional choices, after getting my degree in English literature, I disappointed my parents by refusing to go to law school or become an English teacher. Instead I sought my calling in a series of odd jobs, strangely all food related. From peddling gourmet salts at farmers markets and slinging meat in a neighborhood butcher shop, I managed to use these experiences and my lifelong love for food and cooking to segue into food styling, landing my first assisting job in 2008. I was hooked from the moment I first built a sandwich held together with pins and Poligrip.
After working in the kitchen for several years, I began assisting some of L.A.’s most sought after prop stylists, and it was there that I learned many other aspects of what it takes to bring together the most beautiful images for clients. Whether tasked with sourcing the perfect vessel or distressing and painting wood surfaces, these experiences have taught me to respectfully acknowledge that creatively we all do our parts, but from the prop house to the kitchen and to the set, it truly is a team effort. A successful shoot only happens because of the invaluable contributions from everyone involved.
